An egress window does three things at once: it makes your basement bedroom legal, it floods the room with natural light, and it provides a safe emergency exit. Without one, your basement bedroom isn’t technically a bedroom. And your legal suite won’t pass inspection.

The Alberta Building Code requires a minimum unobstructed opening of 3.8 sq ft (0.35 m2) with no dimension less than 15 inches, and the sill height must be no more than 39 inches from the floor. We cut through foundation walls, install properly sized windows, and build code-compliant window wells with drainage.

Many Calgary homes built before 2000 have small, non-compliant basement windows. Upgrading to egress windows is often the first step in any legal suite or bedroom conversion.
