Basement Insulation Calgary
The Foundation of Every Comfortable Basement
An uninsulated or under-insulated basement loses heat through concrete walls and the rim joist area. The single largest source of heat loss in most Calgary homes. Proper insulation is the first thing we address before any finishing work.
Alberta Building Code requires R-20 on basement walls for new construction and major renovations. Options include 2” closed-cell spray foam (R-12 per inch), rigid foam board (R-5 per inch), or fibreglass batt in framed walls. Each has trade-offs in cost, performance, and moisture management.
Spray foam is our preferred method because it’s insulation and vapour barrier in one application. No separate poly sheet needed. It also seals air leaks around rim joists, pipes, and wiring penetrations that batt insulation can’t address.
